Lead Pimpers: Karen Liebreich

Where once there was an empty tree pit on a busy main road with vans parking and driving over it leaving ugly tyre tracks Karen tried pavement pimping. At first low stuff kept being driven over so she tried a more visible wigwam using wonky hazel poles (cautious not to use really good ones in case they got flattened or nicked).
She transplanted forget-me-nots, marigolds, borage, linaria, agastache from self-sown seedlings in the hope they’ll self seed, and then added sweet pea and French beans to climbing up the poles. It’s been touch and go for a while, the sweet peas looked sickly, the agastache doesn’t like it dry in the corners of the pit, but today it’s doing well. (If you explore ‘street view’ in Google maps you can see the empty tree pit before it was planted up like this, and other pimped pavements by Karen along the road.
